Ohio is the hub of one of the largest competitive pistol shooting area in the country. It is also the home of The National Rifle and Pistol Matches, held at Camp Perry, the largest outdoor shooting range in the country. Ohio also hosted the Grand American ATA Shotgun Championships at Vandalia until 2005.
Each years thousands of shooters in many different disciplines migrate to Ohio to participate in shooting sports- From the National Matches to local weekly trap shoots and turkey shoots, Ohio is active in all phases of the Shooting Sports.
ORPA is committed to defending our rights as citizens to keep and bear arms as well as to promote safety, education and marksmanship.
The ORPA Code of Regulations States our Mission:
"ARTICLE II ----PURPOSE"
...to support the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and the rights of lawful firearms owners. To promote, develop and encourage marksmanship with Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, Revolver and Pistol among our youth and those of our citizens who are of military age; to train and qualify as expert marksmen those who may be called upon to serve our country in the time of emergency; to promote firearms safety; to promote hunting as a vital wildlife management technique; to promote, develop and encourage competition in marksmanship between individuals, teams and all other organizations interested therein; to promote and encourage favorable legislation for the establishment and maintenance of suitable ranges; to secure the issuance of arms, ammunition and other equipment for practice; and, in general, to promote, encourage and create a public sentiment in favor of marksmanship, not only as a clean and wholesome sport, but also as a very necessary, essential and vital means of national defense."
