In Memoriam: Bob Sacco, ORPA Past President - Long time trustee
Robert Paul Sacco passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 67 years old.
Robert was a graduate of Elder High School, Class of '70, where he did some sports-ing (wrestling and football). After high school, he was one of the first males to infiltrate the all-women's college of Mount Saint Joseph, where he found the love of his life, his wife Mary, whom he held tight for 46 years. He worked on a lot of plays at Edgecliff for a year or two, and then got a real job and served as a Hamilton County Deputy Sheriff from October 1973 until January 2004, when he retired. As if 31 years wasn't long enough as a Deputy Sheriff, he then became a Special Deputy, serving from 2004 to 2019. He loved being a cop. He instructed people on how to use guns safely, and was a certified Concealed Carry Instructor. He was a life member of the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association starting out as the Cowboy Director and eventually serving as President for 3 years. He was a Miami Rifle and Pistol Club board member and past President, and a member of the Fairfield Sportsman's Association. Bob, AKA Grubsack, was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society, Big Irons, Stonelick Regulators, and was an avid hunter. He would take trips to Canada, Wyoming, Idaho and Tennessee; honestly, he'd travel just about anywhere they would let him shoot animals and take them home to eat. He once shot two wild boars with one shot - true story. And as if that wasn't enough, he would shoot pistols and shotguns competitively. To top it all off, he was a gun collector, an NRA Life Member and NRA Golden Eagle achieving benefactor status. He not only LOVED collecting and teaching people how to handle guns, but was incredible at it.
He was a Boy Scout, both in his youth and as an adult, who became the Scout Leader for his son's scout troop where he was a Merit Badge Counselor. They belonged to the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society of the BSA, and Robert supported his son in his quest for Eagle Scout.
All in all, Robert was a loving husband, father and brother, amazing educator, great cop and all around pain in the ass every now and then, but we all loved him just the same.
Bob is survived by his father, Angelo; wife of 46 years, Mary Sacco (nee Bahr); son, Anthony Sacco (Jessica); grandchild, AJ; siblings David (Ursula), Kim Thompson (Norman), Lisa, Angela Sacco-Armocida, Maria (the cutest and the one tasked to write his obit), Carl and James; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces. Preceded in death by his mother, Edith Sacco.
